You say ask questions
To clarify intentions
Then accuse me
Switch threads
Jump jump jump around
In conversation
Deflecting redirecting
Dismissing avoiding
Creating an impossible situation
That leaves me
Feeling alone
In a state of chronic exasperation

You deflect that too
Say all you’re trying to do
Is focus on a
Clear and simple issue

Which is in fact
A moving target
With a deep strong undercurrent
A pileup of patterns
Unaddressed unresolved
Culminating in a riptide
Threatening to pull us out to sea

As you simply comment on
What a beautiful day it is
And how the sunlight
Sparkles on the water
Blissfully oblivious
As I work double time
To keep us out of danger

And when I try
To talk about it with you
The cycle repeats
