Learn to authentically sing the classic Iraqi prayers for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur!

Sept 18 at 11:30 am Pacific Time

Whether you’re a Jewish educator or lay person, you probably have never heard the Iraqi prayers for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, never mind learned to sing them, never mind in the authentic Iraqi pronunciation! In this crash course, you’ll learn some of the lively classics – including Adon Haselihoth, El Nora Alila, and Ahoth Quetana – in the traditional Iraqi pronunciation.

No prior experience, musical talent, or knowledge of Hebrew is required.

We will start off with a quick history of the origins of the Iraqi Jewish community, following which I’ll teach you the original pronunciation of Hebrew – which Jews of Iraq and other Middle Eastern countries preserved through the millennia. Next, I’ll teach you classic Iraqi High Holiday prayers, with easy-to-learn choruses – first breaking down the pronunciations, then breaking down the melodies, then singing together. English transliterations will be provided.

The fee for this class includes the following exclusive gifts:

  • Free eBook of the Iraqi prayers we sing in this class, including transliterated choruses. This book will not be available to the general public.
  • Free digital copy of my new album, Ancestral Ways: Iraqi High Holiday Hits, featuring 10 classic Iraqi High Holiday prayers, first sung a cappella style, in the original version, then sung improvisationally with crystal singing bowls – for use in meditation, yoga, sacred sance practice and so on. This album will not available to the general public
  • Free recording of this class, for your continued reference and study. This recording will not be available to the general public.
  • Free digital copy of The Flying Camel: Essays on Identity by Women of North African and Middle Eastern Jewish Heritage anthology 2022 edition

Would your organization like to offer a fun Jewish diversity & inclusion event - without the effort or expense of program development?

In the wake of Black Lives Matter, your community organization may be looking for ways to ramp up your diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. But your staff may struggle with lack of knowledge or resources about global Jewish heritage, in particular, beyond the basics, given standard Jewish education – which with rare exception has been limited to Jews of Central and Eastern Europe. That’s why KHAZZOOM Multimedia Arts & Education is developing a series of expert and dynamic multimedia programs on Jewish diversity, equity, and inclusion – all without the effort or expense of program development for you, and with the additional option of built-in fundraising for your organization.
